Applause Acoustic Electric Guitars
I selected this electric guitar up in-shop from a friend of mine and I'm uncertain why - for fun? - at hand to students guitarist? - for camping? I really do have a soft area for Ovation products and the Korean Applause and Ovation products being perfectly once I've had them in for service. They may be absolutely nothing special - and also this undoubtedly actually - however they're useful, inexpensive guitars and (once setup) are ideal for using outdoors as well as on trips.
This model features a laminate, x-braced top, passive undersaddle pickup, and a shallow-depth "Lyrachord" (read: plastic) bowl-back. The neck is (supposedly) some form of mahogany additionally the board and connection are both rosewood. Work included regluing the endblock-area/top seam, taping along the free electronic cables inside (typical on acou/elecs - they rattle around annoyingly unless taped), modifying the saddle, a really light fret level/dress, cleaning, brand-new strings, brand new bone nut, and a good setup. It plays effortless and it has that midrangey tone you would expect from a thin-depth human anatomy - but it's perfectly pleasant to pick on and sing some tracks with.
The black finish does let a number of the laminate spruce grain show-through... which can be an advantage.
The glued-on soundhole rosettes often fall-off - I'd to glue that one straight back on whilst'd show up.
No doubt the 2 original bolts set up on edge of this bridge have actually held it from the need to be reglued...
Bound board, medium frets, pearl dots. Not bad.
We used to play a 1969 Ovation for programs some years back and liked the thing - but didn't like this "falling out from the lap" sense of the top dish.
The slim human body and a little flattened curves about this bowlback truly fit this better in the lap.
The enclosed tuners are not my favorite nevertheless they do work just fine.
The stock undersaddle pickup is passive and so the "gain" control really = "volume." It sounds slim and icky if you don't turn the tone completely "warm." Honestly - i cannot remain undersaddle pickups, myself, nevertheless they do battle feedback relatively really and seem "sufficient" for the majority of jobs in the event that you EQ out most of the mids and include a tiny bit of reverb. I actually such as the noise for this passive, plain-Jane unit better than Taylor pups. It is method less "springy" sounding and preserves a rather great tone fingerpicked.
